It used to be, you would start a website with characters that people would eventually learn to love, then you would release products and merchandise featuring those characters, and your die-hard fans would eat them up.
Now, I've noticed, wet-behind-the-ears artists and animators will start merchandising their characters as soon as they are created. So, now, you can enjoy an awkward moment with your creatively-minded friend as he tries to sell you a mug or a poster featuring a character you haven't heard of and have no reason to love!
Here's mine: Spaghettisaurus, the spaghetti-based dinosaur you may (or may not!) have seen around this website, in a giant wall sticker that you can put up in your home! Houseguests will ask, "What is that thing?" And you'll say, "Spaghettisaurus." And they'll be, like, "What's that?" And you'll be all: "It's a character from davidxkoenig.com." And they'll go, "What is that?" And you'll reply, "My son David's website," and I will enjoy the free publicity, for that is how the Young Creative Entrepreneur Business Model works.
Spaghettisaurus Wall Graphic features an adhesive material designed to peel paint when removed from walls, and to also leave large amounts of residue on whatever surface it was attached to. Spaghettisaurus Wall Graphic cannot be hung even-leveled on a wall upon first attempt at display. |
